Bulgaria Investigates Recovery Commission over Money Abuse

Bulgaria's Interior Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov has announced that 22 pre-trial proceedings have been started over money abuse by the Commission for Recovery and Assistance.

The minister answered Friday the question by Kalina Krumova, a MP from the nationalist party “Ataka”, who asked about information on the financial abuse by the Ministry for Calamities and Damages during the ruling of the Three-way Coalition.

Tsvetanov also said that 8 of the 22 proceedings are against a known perpetrator and that some of them have been delayed due to the expertise that they have undergone.

He also added that in 2009, the Commission for Recovery and Assistance have provided BGN 27 M for reconstruction of roads.

The interior minister has also explained the situation in the flooded Bulgarian town of Saedinenie.

“We will make a feasibilities study for the construction of sewers, which will solve the issue with the floods. All the victims of the flood will also be compensated,” Tsvetanov said.

According to the minister, the accident has happened due to the “gradual exhausting of the sewer network”. As a result, 500 houses have been flooded and only 183 of them have been drained.

“The colleagues will continue working day and night until the problem is solved,” Tsvetanov said, adding that the problem will be solved after constructing new sewers.
